Searching the Archives

Our Feedback page regularly receives enquiries concerning historical searches, ancestor research and the like. Whilst we hare happy to try to assist, we though it would be helpful to offer some guidance - hence this page. Generally, we only have access to records of our own church from 1928 (when the parish of St. Paul's, East Ham, came into being), so we can usually help if a registration was made of a Baptism, Thanksgiving and Naming, Confirmation, Marriage or a Funeral.
In addition, we do have a 'scrap book' of previous parish events; so if you want to enquire about past events in our church life, we may be able to find a reference to such.

You may find our history page helpful in providing background notes on East Ham and St. Paul's place within it.

The old 'Parish of East Ham' (parish church St. Mary) was part of the Rochester Diocese from 1867 until 1877 when it was transferred to a new Diocese of St. Albans. It was not until 1914 that the Diocese of Chelmsford, was created.

Our friends in the adjacent East Ham Team parish have put a number of useful links on their 'Ancestry & Records of Parish of East Ham Churches & People Associated +Links | Contacts' pages, and we would recommend a visit there.

Most churches in the Chelmsford diocese deposit their historical records at the Essex Records Office.
