Music has always played a significant part in our worship, and if you like ‘a good sing’ then you will feel at home here. (Equally, if you think you can’t sing, you can still take part, in full assurance that no-one will notice if you’re singing out of tune!)
We try to make use of all the great range of material now available, introducing good new contemporary worship songs from the likes of Vineyard Music, Hillsongs, Makeway Music, etc., as well as retaining those classic songs and hymns from the writers of previous generations. (Just because a hymn was written hundreds of years ago, doesn’t mean it’s not just as relevant today!) If it’s got the right message and it’s good to sing, we’ll keep on using it.
We no longer have a formal choir, but pull together a group of folk who enjoy singing whenever we feel a need for a ‘choral’ item; usually for festival services (Christmas, Easters, etc.) Otherwise we believe in keeping our confident singers spread amongst the congregation. If you would be interested in joining a choir for our next event, do let us know, via the Feedback page.
We do posses a (3 manual +pedal) pnuematic-action pipe organ; but sadly as this gets little use, it is currently in need of extensive renovation.
For our main services we have a fine Yamaha Grand Piano* to accompany our singing.-, and for smaller events we may make use of recorded music, or sing a-capella.
If you have musical skills you would like to offer to the Lord, you would be more than welcome to join us.
We are building a small library of worship songs, hymns and meditation music in our Cassette Library which are used at services, and may be borrowed if you wish to listen to them at home, or in your car.
* Our Piano is also used for practical Music examinations. If you are coming to St. Paul's for an exam, and wish to practice on the piano beforehand, we will try to accomodate you. Please contact our Bookings secretary to arrange a suitable time. (See our Contacts page for details.)
You can listen to some of our musical efforts on our Audio Archive
page.
Praise Him with the sound of the trumpet: praise Him with the psaltery and harp.
Praise Him with the timbrel and dance: praise Him with stringed instruments and organs.
Praise Him upon the loud cymbals: praise Him upon the high sounding cymbals.
Let everything that have breath praise the Lord.
(Psalm 150, v.3 - 6.)
